Mick Schumacher has completed his first seat fitting at the Mercedes Formula 1 team.
After getting dropped by Haas for the 2023 campaign in favour of Nico Hulkenberg, Schumacher was adopted by Mercedes.
He also parted ways with the Ferrari Driver Academy, with whom he has had a relationship with for several seasons.
The Schumacher family has a history with the Brackley-based squad, with Mick’s father Michael spending his final three years in F1 with it from 2010 to 2012.
Schumacher will be trackside at all grands prix this year, ready to step in should Lewis Hamilton or George Russell be unable to race.
The 23-year-old will also aid the development of Mercedes’ W14 car and will partake in simulator driving duties.
The team is hopeful that it will be able to return to form in 2023 after a difficult 2022 campaign saw it pick up just a single race win.
Schumacher is aiming to get back to the grid full-time in the future, with his Mercedes position set to play a key role in the mission.
“The most important factor is his personality,” said Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. “He’s a well-educated, intelligent and talented young man.
“You can see his junior career track record was very good and I believe that if we can give him a safe environment to further develop, he can be a good racing driver in a permanent seat in the future.”
Mercedes will launch its 2023 car on February 14.
