Formula 1 has issued a response to the news that Andretti has formed a partnership with General Motors as it looks to join the grid in the future.
The cautious statement differs from the enthusiasm of the FIA, who recently asserted its commitment to listening to potential new entries.
News of Andretti’s F1 bid was not met with excitement by some F1 teams throughout the 2022 season amid concerns over the value it would add to the sport.
F1’s statement on Thursday says that there is still a process for Andretti to go through before it and the FIA agree to the new entry.
“There is great interest in the F1 project at this time with a number of conversations continuing that are not as visible as others,” it said.
“We all want to ensure the championship remains credible and stable and any new entrant request will be assessed on criteria to meet those objectives by all the relevant stakeholders.
“Any new entrant request requires the agreement of both F1 and the FIA.”
Over the last several months, Andretti has been one of the most vocal parties regarding a potential F1 entry.
However, Porsche has also known to be interested and was in talks with Red Bull before the deal collapsed, while Audi has already signed up for the 2026 season.
When asked if he believed the point in F1’s statement that there are other voices in talks to join the grid, Andretti said: “Yeah, 1000% believe it.
“I believe that we check every box that needs to be checked to be able to enter Formula 1.
“I feel like we’re definitely ahead of our competition to get there. I feel very very confident that we’ll be on the grid soon.”
