Gasly wouldn’t alter career despite mixed Red Bull years

Pierre Gasly says he wouldn’t change anything about his Formula 1 career to date despite his conflicting years as part of the Red Bull family.

Gasly made his F1 debut toward the end of 2017 with Toro Rosso and stayed for a full season in 2018 before being promoted to Red Bull the following year.

However, the Frenchman was unable to get up to speed at the front-running squad alongside Max Verstappen, and endured a difficult half-season there.

He was quickly demoted back to Toro Rosso midway through the campaign and was forced to rebuild his reputation as the team transitioned into AlphaTauri.

Gasly reestablished himself as a strong prospect and attracted the interest of Alpine for 2023, who has signed him to a multi-year deal alongside compatriot Esteban Ocon.

Despite having struggled at times with Red Bull, Gasly asserts that there is nothing he would change regarding his F1 journey so far.

“Not at all. This was my career and my story with Red Bull,” Gasly said. “I really believe that whatever was meant to happen, happened. It’s meant to be like that.

“I’ve learned a lot and I think I’m in a much stronger position and a much stronger driver than I was.

“If I’m the person I am today thanks to the experiences I’ve had there, I’ve grown up a lot, whether it was on the track or off the track.

“And if you ask me, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m 26 now, every year I’m getting better. I’m like a good red wine.

“I don’t know where this is going to stop but I know that personally I keep getting better. I know the best is yet to come.

“I’m really grateful for what has happened. It could’ve been different but at the end of the day, it’s happened the way it was.

“There’s been a lot of lessons learned from that, which is the most important thing.”
