As part of his ongoing celebration for winning the 106th Indianapolis 500, Marcus Ericsson will visit his native Sweden over the next week. And the iconic Borg-Warner Trophy will be in tow.
From November 3-7, Ericsson and the trophy will take part in multiple events to honor the largest accomplishment of the 32-year-old’s racing career.
The Swede will tour various cities throughout the Nordic country and attend numerous events organized by BorgWarner and Huski Chocolate, the main sponsor of his #8 entry.
There will even be an event held in the town square of Ericsson’s hometown Kumla, where many of the town’s nearly 22,000 residents will get a chance to celebrate alongside their famous countryman.
“It feels amazing to be able to bring the Borg-Warner Trophy over to Sweden and share this victory with friends, family and all the fans,” Ericsson said.
“It is going to be so special for me and especially on Sunday, bringing the trophy to my hometown of Kumla and being in town square with that party-like feeling. It is such an iconic trophy, and I am very proud to bring it home.”
Ericsson’s likeness was recently added to the large trophy, which prompted him to relate that winning the Indy 500 has already placed him ‘in a different category.’
The five-day tour is just the fourth time the trophy will travel outside of the United States, with previous instances including trips to Japan and France to celebrate the victories of Takuma Sato and Simon Pagenaud respectively.
Ericsson will continue with Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2023 IndyCar Series season, and will look to build on the success he’s found over the past couple years.
