Lamborghini gives sneak peek at 2024 LMDh

Lamborghini Squadra Corse have released a teaser image along with the powertrain specification that their new LMDh machine will use in its competition debut in 2024

The Italian manufacturer has confirmed the use of a twin-turbo V8 which will be the first engine to be developed entirely by the Squadra Corse team in Sant’Agata Bolognese. This will be teamed with the spec hybrid unit used as part of the regulations, to give a maximum power output of roughly 670 horsepower.

Lamborghini said: “With Automobili Lamborghini embarking on a future of hybridization in its road car production, the LMDh represents a specific energy/performance project based on the experiences of the upcoming generations of its sports cars, fully aligning with the Cor Tauri company strategy.”

The Italian marque also supplied a teaser image of the Ligier Automotive based challenger which looks similar to the Cadillac machine that was unveiled earlier in the year.

The company said regarding its decision to partner with the experienced brand: “The decision to team up with Ligier Automotive enables Lamborghini Squadra Corse to enter the top class of endurance racing with an established chassis provider. Additionally, the competent and flexible structure of Ligier Automotive (with specific touch points between Squadra Corse) made the partnership a logical choice for the LMDh project.

The car will be used to compete in the Hypercar class in the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as the GTP class as part of the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship in America

Lamborghini is set to join Alpine and BMW as the new marques for 2024. The trio will go up against the likes of Toyota, Ferrari, Cadillac, Acura, Peugeot and Porsche who will have had a season more experience in the new era of top class sports car racing when they join the fray.
