Williams test driver Roy Nissany has been suspended from the next event of the Formula 2 championship.
Nissany entered the Zandvoort weekend on 11 penalty points following a range of driving offences through the 2022 campaign.
During the Feature Race at Zandvoort Nissany was judged to have driven in a dangerous manner while the Safety Car was deployed.
Stewards deemed that Nissany and David Beckmann were driving side-by-side behind Marino Sato when the Safety Car was deployed.
Nissany ‘decided that he was in front’ when the Safety Car was deployed and ‘pushed to stay in front’ of his rivals.
Stewards outlined that ‘it is not up to him to re-establish the right order behind a Safety Car and it is dangerous to do so’.
Nissany was issued a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points, bringing him to 13, which is over the season limit of 12.
As a consequence the DAMS driver will not be permitted to participate at Monza.
He is the third driver to pick up a race ban in 2022 following Amaury Cordeel and Olli Caldwell’s respective transgressions.
He won’t be missed. It feels like he crashes into someone every race. He was penalized not long ago after an incident from which Hauger was very lucky to emerge uninjured when his car was sent airborne off a kerb. That one was also very dangerous.
