Renault Sport F1 has confirmed the appointment of former Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul to the position of managing director.
It comes as president and managing director Jean Michel Jalinier has chosen to excercise his right to retirement for “personal reasons” according to a company statement.
Abiteboul takes over part of his position, whilst Jérôme Stoll is promoted to president, but will also continue in his position as chief performance officer and group sales.
Abiteboul left his position at Caterham on Tuesday following the announcement that the team had been sold to a consortium of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors.
Red Bull are believed to have pushed for Abiteboul’s return to Renault Sport F1 where he previously worked prior to Caterham.
