Marussia’s Jules Bianchi managed to hold on to ninth in Monaco to secure the teams first ever points in their five year history and the Frenchman couldn’t be happier.
Bianchi actually finished eighth, but had a five-second time addition applied which dropped him behind Romain Grosjean, reducing his haul from four to just two points.
Marussia however won’t be too upset as the points move them ahead of Sauber in the championship and gives them a buffer to chief rival Caterham.
Speaking after, Bianchi said: “We have been waiting for this for a long and now that we have done it I am so proud of the team. They did a really good job and I am really happy to give them the result,” he said after the race.
“It was really stressful for me in the car and I guess it was for the team as well as we had some penalties, so I was lucky to finish in the points. I cannot say anymore, it is just amazing.”
The 24-year-old was initially given a five-second stop/go penalty for lining up in the wrong grid slot, a penalty he later served during his first pit-stop. However as that came under Safety Car conditions, he was forced to serve it again – with no stops in his schedule, it was added on after the race.
Team principal John Booth said he was “over the moon” with the result.
“The five second penalty dropped us behind Grosjean which is a shame, but we are absolutely over the moon, it has been a long five years to get this,” he added.
“We thought getting the tenth place [in the championship] in Brazil was a big party – just wait until tonight.”
