Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA, has issued a Technical Directive in a bid to improve driver safety following a spate of recent comments.
The phenomenon has been present in Formula 1 this season owing to the ground effect that has returned following the overhauled technical regulations.
The predicament has affected some teams more than others, with Mercedes notably impacted, particularly at bumpier circuits that have lengthier full-throttle sections.
Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix the FIA has taken action in the interest of safety.
In a statement it outlined that “it is necessary to intervene to require that teams make the necessary adjustments to reduce or to eliminate this phenomenon.
“A Technical Directive has been issued to give guidance to the teams about the measures the FIA intends to take to tackle the problem. These include:
1. Closer scrutiny of the planks and skids, both in terms of their design and the observed wear
2. The definition of a metric, based on the car’s vertical acceleration, that will give a quantitative limit for acceptable level of vertical oscillations. The exact mathematical formula for this metric is still being analysed by the FIA, and the Formula 1 teams have been invited to contribute to this process.”
The FIA outlined that a technical meeting will be held with teams in order to “define measures that will reduce the propensity of cars to exhibit such phenomena in the medium term.
“The FIA has decided to intervene following consultation with its doctors in the interests of safety of the drivers.
“In a sport where the competitors are routinely driving at speeds in excess of 300km/h, it is considered that all of a driver’s concentration needs to be focused on that task and that excessive fatigue or pain experienced by a driver could have significant consequences should it result in a loss of concentration.
“In addition, the FIA has concerns in relation to the immediate physical impact on the health of the drivers, a number of whom have reported back pain following recent events.”
So baby Mercedes get there way again I see
By the sounds of it the FIA’s solution it is going to hurt them. They will have to raise car to lower/eliminate the aggressiveness of bouncing. Other teams won’t have to sacrifice as much performance to stay within acceptable levels.
Ferrari are bouncing just as much so this weekend will be interesting to see who fixes the problem, it sounds like we are going to get a rather mixed up grid and cars in the pits with engineers scratching their heads .
Which is better than drivers out for the season with an unfixable back issue I suppose .
Hamilton having to trade his scooter for a mobility one might not be so cool ?
There’s whining and then there’s advocating for your team. The loudest ones have been Red Bull and Mercedes. They have done both. Neither has whined any louder than the other. And it’s a judgment call when advocating turns into whining.
If anything, Mercedes has cause to whine louder because the change in regulations impacted their low rake concept way more than the high rake concept of Red Bull. I’m pretty sure Mercedes has whined about that in private but am also sure they realize there’s no sense dwelling on that.
I would like to see them figure it out though. Makes them more interesting and improves the F1 product, as happened with Ferrari, who though I mainly despise them, I admire the job they did in coming up with this year’s car.
Bad decision. You can’t have a team choosing the rules, yet we’ve recently seen Hamilton refuse to obey the jewellery regulation, now Mercedes appear to be winning the battle to drag the rest down to their level by eliminating the ground effect which they have been unable to master. That team, particularly its antagonistic and agitative driver, and its typically Austrian leader, is utterly toxic.
Clogged hate disguised as a, unintelligent statement impacts drains & can cause numerous adverse effects on your health and that of your loved ones. For starters, it facilitates bacterial growth which causes allergies and diseases.
The blockage in your drainage system hinders water from flowing freely, hence a flow back. At this point, you will realise slow water drainage in your urinary tract, and sometimes, it remains stagnant. This water contains the “dami bacterium” , and the more you continue to read the same old tripe from Dami , you are at risk of opportunistic viruses and novel contaminants. New pathogens can advance into the epithelial layers. These microorganisms are specialised to infect body tissues where they reproduce and cause damage that gives rise to the symptoms of the infection. On a microbial level it will be the catalyst to a total systemic shut down of the body’s Central Nervous System. Which will result in a Cytokine Release Syndrome. Commonly known as The Cytokine Storm. Total Organ failure due to an aggressive inflammatory response from reading the same old rubbish spouted by “The Dami Bacterium” about Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolf. It’s time for the wide spread inoculation of all, & help prevent the rapid expansion of the same repetitive soundbites from the ever mutating “Dami Bacterium”.
Very inventive, but you fail to give any reason why you think I’m incorrect, despite you’re dribbling on and on. I suppose that must be to what you are referring with the term clogged hate, your inability to accept the existence of opinions which conflict with your own.
What ever happened to my body my choice.
I have noticed that Vax pushers can only attack the messenger not defend the attacked.
I think Toto is a great bloke over qualified for his current post maybe German Chancellor might be a better fit or head of the EU.
Hamilton too should be upgraded to team manager/driver role plus head of design for the team fashion.
If you are driving a clown car that jumps up and down the team must be dressed appropriately .
