Edoardo Mortara has secured another Pole Position in Berlin after defeating Robin Frijns in the Final Duels.

Continuing his strong pace from Saturday, Mortara beat Frijns by 0.502 in a dominating final run in qualifying.

Mortara’s final rival, Frijns, started the morning in Group A where he went through to the quarter-finals. He was joined by Stoffel Vandoorne who had topped the group after a scruffy run where he had made contact with the wall. Lucas Di Grassi and Nick Cassidy would also make through from Group A

Group B saw Mortara top the table showing his pace from the start of the session. He was followed by Vandoorne’s teammate Nyck De Vries, not quite able to mimic the Belgian. Antonio Felix Da Costa left it right to the end to set his time and progress through. Da Costa’s time meant that he had knocked out Jean Eric Vergne. The Frenchman not having quite the same pace on this variation of the circuit. Andre Lotterer rounded out the session.

Into the quarter-finals and it was Lotterer against Vandoorne first up. After a bad start to the lap for Stoffel it was Lotterer that would set his sights on the semi-finals, beating the Mercedes driver by three tenths.

Frijns would then dispose of the DS Techeetah of Da Costa in one of the closest of the shootouts. 0.014s separating the two drivers at the line.

De Vries would knock-out Di Grassi in their duel and Mortara would secure his spot by going faster than Cassidy.

The Semi-Finals would see Lotterer go up against Frijns and Mortara looking to beat De Vries. Robin Frijns would book his seat in the Final by 0.140 whereas Mortara would set the first 1:05 of the qualifying session to see off De Vries.

The subsequent Final wasn’t close as Frijns got a slide near the start of the lap meaning it was always going to be an uphill battle. Mortara took his second Pole of the weekend and goes into the race in strong form.
