Hildebrand to run flag-themed livery for Indy 500
AJ Foyt Racing has revealed the livery that will adorn JR Hildebrand’s #11 entry for this year’s Indy 500.
The special scheme is styled to make the entire car appear to be an American flag, with overly-large stars and stripes filling out every surface available.
The livery is designed to bring attention to Homes For Our Troops, which donates custom homes to severely injured veterans to enable them to rebuild their lives.
The design space on the car was gifted to the nonprofit by the car’s main sponsor ABC Supply, which will also match all donations made to HFOT from May 21-30, up to $1 million.
“To support this organization at the Speedway, bring attention to Veterans and some of the challenges that they face, and to highlight the things that people and organizations like Homes For Our Troops are doing to give them opportunities to better their lives is such a special thing to be able to be a part of,” said J.R. Hildebrand, driver of the No. 11 car.
Last year Hildebrand ran a different one-off livery, which paid homage to team owner AJ Foyt’s 1961 Indy 500-winning car named the Bowes Seal Fast Special.
ABC Supply was supportive the throwback livery as well, but this year surrendered the all-important sidepod sponsorship location to help out the cause.
Hildebrand will be running in his 12th consecutive Indy 500 this year, and will attempt to become the first American to win the race since Alexander Rossi in 2016.
The first time the red, white, and blue car will hit the track will be for the first day of Indianapolis 500 practice, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17.
