Felipe Massa defied his wife’s wish for him to quit Formula 1 at the end of 2013 after he was dropped by Ferrari in favour of returnee Kimi Raikkonen.
Instead the Brazilian, who was nearly killed in an accident in 2009, has signed a contract with Williams where he will likely lead the team alongside Valtteri Bottas.
“She actually wants me to stop racing,” he told local newspaper Estadao.
However he managed to convince her that he wanted to continue racing, even after Formula 1.
“She knows that I am not happy just to be at home – my happiness is to race, and she also wants the best for me.
“I’ve even talked about continuing to compete in another category when I leave F1.”
