Yamaha became the latest manufacturer to reveal its war colours for the 2022 MotoGP campaign in an online video launch a day ahead of the opening day of official testing.
The Japanese marque’s 2022 riders Fabio Quartararo- the reigning MotoGP world champion- as well as new signing Franco Morbidelli were on hand to pull the covers off of the latest evolution of its M1 prototype, revealing an unchanged paint scheme consisting of its traditional dark blue and black colours.
The squad also once again features heavy branding from title sponsor Monster Energy, both riders keeping their respective numbers for the year- Quartararo electing to go with his customary #20 rather than the #1 while Morbidelli runs the #21.
Yamaha racing director Lin Jarvis also confirmed that ex-Valentino Rossi crew chief will go back to focussing on the Yamaha test team after performing as crew chief for Maverick Vinales and latterly Franco Morbidelli towards the end of last year, Morbidelli electing to team up with Patrick Primmer for 2022 in his first full term with Yamaha.
The teams and riders are already at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia having completed the three day shakedown outing for test and rookie riders at the venue, with the first official pre-season test taking place on Saturday and Sunday before moving on to the Mandalika Circuit in Indonesia next week.
