Charouz Racing System has announced the signing of Francesco Pizzi, who will race for it in the FIA Formula 3 Championship this year.
17-year-old Pizzi spent the 2021 season competing in the Formula Regional European Championship, ending the year 20th in the standings.
In 2020, he raced in the UAE and Italian F4 Championships, finishing first and second respectively in both campaigns.
“I am obviously very excited to be joining Charouz Racing System,” said Pizzi. “I really enjoyed the work we have already done together in the last few days at the factory.
“This is a great opportunity for me because the team has shown that it can be the right place for a young driver. I intend to make the most of this chance while doing the best possible job for the team.”
Pizzi was not present at the post-season F3 test last year, but has sampled F3 machinery before, having received a test outing with MP Motorsport in 2020.
Charouz Team Owner Antonín Charouz added: “We’re very pleased to add another important piece to our 2022 line-up.
“Francesco has already demonstrated with his past results that he has excellent potential, we’re sure that he will be able right away to do his best working with all the engineers and mechanics in order to prepare for the first races and show what he can do in such a competitive championship.
“The beginning of the season is approaching very quickly and the whole team is already working very hard to start off on the right foot and build a season that lives up to our expectations.”
Pizzi joins Laszlo Toth at Charouz for the 2022 F3 season, with the Czech team’s third driver set to be announced in due course.
