Ferrari has altered its test plans for this week’s four-day gathering at private facility Fiorano.
The marque had intended to run its 2021-spec SF21 for Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and test driver Robert Shwartzman across the remainder of this week.
But this year’s regulations governing testing of historic machinery has not yet been agreed and clarified between the teams and the FIA.
As a consequence Ferrari has scrapped plans to use its SF21 and is instead utilising the 2018-spec SF71H.
In a short statement Ferrari outlined that ‘while awaiting an update from the FIA as to how rules relating to “Test Previous Cars,” which establish the criteria for which cars can be used in this type of test, are being applied for 2022, the decision has been taken to use a 2018 SF71H car.
‘Further details on the test programme will follow later.’
Ferrari is using the four-day test to get its drivers and engineers back up to speed following the winter break.
Fellow Italian team AlphaTauri is also in action this week, with Pierre Gasly behind the wheel of the 2020-spec AT01 at Imola today (Tuesday).
