Devlin DeFrancesco will be running a striking neon yellow and orange livery for the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season.
The livery has been with DeFrancesco for the past couple seasons in Indy Lights and Indy Pro 2000, but it is not always the case that a driver will get to keep his livery as he advances into top-tier series.
With Simon Pagenaud leaving Team Penske this year, and leaving his own Menards-themed neon livery behind, this announcement means that fans of brightly-colored cars will continue to have some eye candy on track this season.
“Ever since the announcement of me graduating to IndyCar last November, this has been one of the days I have really been looking forward to,” DeFrancesco said. “To see the car for real and have my name on it is a fantastic feeling.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the continued support of PowerTap Hydrogen, who has been with me on the Road to Indy, and to Capstone, who has also shown faith in me to continue on the No. 29 car this year. Now, with Atmofizer joining us as well, we have three great primary partners who are leaders in environmental technology.”
DeFrancesco holds dual nationality with Canada and Italy, but will officially be racing under the Canadian flag.
The 21-year-old raced in quite a few different series in his teenage years, including British F4 and Formula 3, before moving stateside and running through the Road to Indy ladder with the Andretti team.
He now advances to the top category for 2022, and will run the #29 in place of the departed James Hinchcliffe.
“The reality has really been setting in,” continued DeFrancesco, “but now seeing the car in person, and seeing my name on the side. It’s something I’m really looking forward to. Only a month, month-and-a-half away from my first NTT IndyCar Series race, and I couldn’t be more excited.
“Similar livery to my Indy Lights car, and my Indy Pro car. It’s a signature livery of mine, my signature colors. The fact that it’s on an NTT IndyCar now is something I’m very proud of.
“Andretti Autosport’s reputation speaks for itself. They have won so many races and so many championships in so many different categories, it’s unbelievable to see.
“The way Michael runs this place, it’s clear to see why. He’s very organized, he’s very good at executing, and he hires great people.”
DeFrancesco will be running alongside a host of talented team-mates, with Colton Herta, Alexander Rossi, and Romain Grosjean all calling Andretti Autosport home for the 2022 season.
The first race of the year will take place on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida on February 27.
