Nicholas Hamilton has provided an update on his brother Lewis after questions were raised regarding his recent social media activity.
Online users noted that Hamilton unfollowed all accounts on Instagram, sparking rumours regarding the seven-time world champion’s future in the sport.
Hamilton missed out on a record-breaking eighth world championship earlier this month in Abu Dhabi, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen securing his first in dramatic circumstances.
Mercedes was vocally upset over how the latter stage of the race was handled, believing it went against the regulations regarding the Safety Car restart procedure.
Hamilton signed a two-year extension with Mercedes earlier this year, securing him to the Brackley-based squad until at least the end of 2023.
However, some wondered if Hamilton’s recent Instagram activity was a sign that he may walk away from the sport following the controversial season finale over two weeks ago.
But Nicholas Hamilton asserts that his brother is simply taking a break from social media, describing it as a “very toxic place”.
“I think he is just having a bit of a social media break, which I don’t blame him for,’ he told fans during an exchange on video game streaming platform Twitch.
“Social media can be a very toxic place. But he’s cool though. He’s fine. He’s watching the kids ski at the moment.”
Hamilton has not posted on any social media accounts since qualifying day at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Who cares. Let him do whatever he wants. It’s the offseason FFS!
