Clemens Schmid will be the one of four drivers to compete for GRT Grasser Racing Team in the DTM in 2022.
Schmid, 31, will drive one of the Austrian squad’s four Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos in the GT3-based series.
The Austrian has been racing with Grasser in several series for two years. In 2020, he competed in the ADAC GT Masters and combined that with programmes in the GT World Challenge as well as the Intercontinental GT Challenge in 2021.
Before that, Schmid raced GT3 machinery for a variety of teams, including the likes of Attempto Racing and HTP Motorsport.
“With the entry into the DTM, a long-awaited dream comes true,” said Schmid. “I’ve followed the series since childhood. The fact that I can now compete in the DTM with an Austrian team makes the whole thing even more special.
“I was able to get to know both the team and the car very well over the past two years. It’s a great car with which we have great potential.”
Grasser recently announced that the team would be curtailing all of its other GT3 programmes to solely focus on the DTM in 2022.
