Jonathan Hassler has been named the crew chief for Ryan Blaney on the #12 Team Penske team in the NASCAR Cup Series for 2022, replacing the now-retired Todd Gordon.
Hassler moved to Blaney’s team from the #21 Wood Brothers Racing team that had Matt DiBenedetto as driver in 2021. The 2021 season was Hassler’s first as a crew chief in any of NASCAR’s national divisions.
Wood Brothers Racing has a technical alliance with Penske, and prior to becoming DiBenedetto’s full-time crew chief midway through 2021, he was a race engineer for Team Penske.
Hassler has 22 races of experience as a Cup Series crew chief, including a one-race substitute role on Penske’s #22 team of Joey Logano for the suspended Paul Wolfe.
Those 22 races resulted in two top-fives and seven top-10 race finishes.
