Valtteri Bottas believes he’s doing just as good a job as his team-mate Pastor Maldonado, despite the Venezuelan’s experience with the team.
Bottas, who’s in his rookie season, has so far finished all six grand prix this year, with an average finishing position of 13th, whilst Maldonado has finished just three and (not taking into account his three non-finishes) also has an average finishing position of 13th.
In qualifying however, the story is a little different. Bottas has qualified higher than Maldonado on four occasions to two. Rightly so he should be pleased.
“I think my performances relative to Pastor have been pretty good,” he told the official F1 website. “Pastor is experienced – it’s already his third year at Williams – and I would say that I match him more-or-less.”
Despite Maldonado’s two additional years of experience, Bottas says he hasn’t learnt anything in particular from the 28-year-old.
“I can’t really point at one particular thing that I’ve learned from him, but of course you pick up things, especially at a track like Monaco that I didn’t know before this season. I was reading his data very carefully to see how he was doing.”
