Kimi Raikkonen has been cleared to race with his James Hunt tribute helmet after he was initially told to cover up or stop using it.
It’s believed lawyers from Formula One Management requested the Finn stop using the helmet because it contravenes FOM regulations with regards to unauthorised advertising/messages which are visible by the onboard camera.
Raikkonen was however seen using it during qualifying after common sense prevailed and Bernie Ecclestone stepped in to give the Lotus driver permission to use the helmet.
Raikkonen is a massive Hunt fan and previously wore a tribute helmet to the British driver at last years Monaco GP. He also entered a snowmobile race under the 1976 champion’s name.
Sebastian Vettel wasn’t so lucky. The Red Bull driver, who is also sporting a one-off Monaco helmet, was seen using an alternative design on Saturday.
His helmet features a half-naked women who’s clothes gradually disappear as the helmet heats up.
