NASCAR championship contender Denny Hamlin will have to drop to the back for the start of the Xfinity 500, the penultimate race of the season, Sunday at Martinsville Speedway after his #11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed pre-race inspection twice.
The first inspection failure of the day Sunday was because of a body issue. The second failure was because of a rear-alignment issue. The car passed the third inspection.
Hamlin, a five-time Martinsville winner, officially is the third-place starter.
