Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel is set to take a grid penalty at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix due to power unit changes.
Prior to this weekend’s event in Austin, Vettel had used up all of his penalty-free power unit elements, meaning any further introduction of fresh components would result in a grid drop.
It is not yet known how many positions Vettel will drop, however if the penalty exceeds 15 grid positions, the four-time world champion will be sent to the back of the grid.
Mercedes, who supplies power units to Aston Martin, recently revealed that it was monitoring a reliability weakness in its internal combustion engine.
Vettel’s team-mate Lance Stroll has also used his quota of penalty-free components for the year.
