F1 has ‘different rules for different people’ – Alonso
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Fernando Alonso claims that there are “different rules for different people” in Formula 1 after he used the Turn 2 run-off area on the opening lap at the Russian Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Alonso navigated the bollards that were set up, adhering to the instructions set out by the race director regarding re-joining the circuit.

The Spaniard was not investigated over the incident, and he slotted into fourth place all the while ensuring he didn’t tangle with another driver at the corner.

Earlier this year, Alonso was vocal about track limit abuse at the Red Bull Ring on the opening lap, as he was left disgruntled by drivers taking advantage of the run-off at Turn 1 on the opening lap.

When asked why he opted to commit to the Turn 2 run-off area in Sochi, Alonso replied: “Just to confirm when I do things they have a different behaviour and a different repercussion on the following event.

“So now, maybe they change the run-off area in Lap 1 in the first couple of corners.

“I’ve been the idiot on track for most of the championship, I’ve been overtaken from outside of the asphalt [by] many people in the first couple of races and even in Austria, I remember Austria 1 and Austria 2 and nothing happened, and there were no questions in the following races and now after Sochi, there’s a question. It’s a confirmation.”

Alonso added when pushed to explain what it was a confirmation of: “[It’s] confirmation of many things. One that there are different rules for different people or different talks the week after for different people.

“Let’s see the next one that crosses the white line on the pit entry, let’s see which nationality he is and which penalty he will get.”

Not what I was expecting from Fernando but let’s go with it for a second or two. Yes Fernando, we have been watching for years the decision making process in F1 decline to the levels of football refereeing, and bias amongst officials who are officiating at an event could never really be policed can it. 😃
