Kelvin van der Linde has taken pole position for the Sunday DTM race at the Hockenheimring, thus retaking the championship lead from Liam Lawson.
Van der Linde secured pole with a late flyer by posting a 01:37:392 in his Abt Sportsline Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo, with the three points earned for pole position allowing him to move ahead of rival Lawson in the points standings.
He had previously drawn level with the Red Bull junior with a race win on Saturday.
Lucas Auer once again qualified second, similarly to Saturday, with GetSpeed’s Arjun Maini in third place. Lawson took fourth, thus not scoring points for qualifying.
Daniel Juncadella rounded out the top five, with Alex Albon sixth.
Maini equals best grid position
Former Formula 2 driver Arjun Maini equalled his best qualifying position of the season in his Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
The Indian driver briefly set at the top of the timesheets after surpassing Mike Rockenfeller, who had been quickest after an unsual single-run strategy.
Maini, however, was then almost immediately beaten out by Auer, demoting him to second.
A front-row lockout for the Mercedes pair appeared to be on the cards, only for Van der Linde to bump Auer and Maini down to second and third respectively.
The two drivers ended each other’s races early with a lap one collision on Saturday that saw Maini take out Auer at the Hairpin.
Rockenfeller ultimately had to settle for seventh, with Maximilian Götz eighth and Vincent Abril ninth.
After retiring from the race on Saturday, Marco Wittmann suffered another disappointing qualifying session in tenth, further troubling his title hopes.
