All eyes in the motorsport world were on a French town; about three hours’ drive south west of Paris, a town called Le Mans… Yes, it was time for the 89th running of the most famous twice around the clock race, the 24 Heures du Mans. While the results may reflect yet another win for Toyota, this was the first ever event at Le Sarthe for the new Hypercar premier class. Sportscar Editor Davey Euwema and chief snapper James Moy were both trackside for the entire 24 hours…
Meanwhile across the pond in Madison, Illinois, IndyCar Editor Kevin Dejewski was trackside too for the annual Bommarito Automotive Group 500, held under the lights of the World Wide Technology Raceway. While Josef Newgarden may have taken an easy win in the end, he was pushed most of the way the in-form Colton Herta.
And with both these high profile events taking place, spare a thought for the DTM Series who’s pair of races were planned well before Le Mans moved their race from their usual June dates. Despite the clash, the event went ahead at the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit where both points leader Kelvin van der Linde and F1 refugee Alexander Albon starred, Phil Oakley has the report.
