WeatherTech Racing’s Cooper MacNeil says his team is hoping to carry over the momentum from the previous round at Lime Rock Park to the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship round at Road America.
MacNeil and team-mate Mathieu Jaminet finished third overall at the GT-only round in Connecticut, finishing only behind the pair of Corvettes.
The race at Lime Rock Park was shortened due to severe weather, but MacNeil says he is hopeful that the team’s performance at the previous round will carry over into this weekend.
“Road America is our home track and one of my favorites,” MacNeil said. “We were in a position to win with our WeatherTech Porsche being the fastest car on the track prior to the stoppage at Lime Rock. Hopefully we can keep that performance going this weekend.”
While Jaminet joined MacNeil for the previous race, the Road America round will see the American driver reunited with Matt Campbell.
“Road America is a high-speed track with some really great corners,” continued MacNeil. “The combination of turns and the speed from Turn 5 to Canada Corner is unlike any track on the planet.
“There is very little track time for practice, so we will have to get the No. 79 WeatherTech Porsche dialed in pretty quickly. Matt has been there, and it is the track that I have the most laps at out of any on our schedule. I am looking forward to having a great weekend.”
Campbell returns to the #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19 after clashing commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship prevented him from racing in the United States.
The Australian Porsche factory ace holds one previous IMSA win at the Wisconsin venue, having taken a GTD class win with Pfaff Motorsports in 2019.
“I am looking forward to this weekend,” Campbell said. “I thoroughly enjoy the track. I have been there a couple of times in IMSA and won the race in GTD in 2019.
“It is a special one for WeatherTech. It is a home event for them, so we hope to have a fantastic result and a good showing for everyone coming to the race from the company. We hope to have a good result and continue the progression.”
