Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, driving the #3 Corvette C8.R, won a weather-shortened IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, after leading from pole over teammates Nick Tandy and Tommy Milner in the sister #4 Corvette.
The race was red flagged on lap 100, with around an hour left to run, after a lightning storm hit the area surrounding the track. The chequered flag was waved with 23 minutes to go.
#79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR’s Cooper MacNeil and Mathieu Jaminet finished third in GTLM, some way behind the Corvettes as MacNeil dropped behind, unable to keep up with the yellow and grey cars. When Jaminet climbed in the car he was able to claw back some of that gap, including setting the race fastest lap, a 50.746, but his progress was curtailed by the weather-induced red flag.
Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis led the GTD class from pole, never seriously being challenged by the cars behind. Madison Snow and Bryan Sellers, driving the #1 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 finished the race second in GTD provisionally, but as Sellers never drove in the race, with the team using an off-sequence strategy to propel them up the field, they may get a penalty.
Snow did initially challenge Gunn after the Aston Martin left the pits for Gunn’s first race laps, but once the Briton was up to speed he soon pulled away from the American.
Third was Jack Hawksworth and Aaron Telitz in the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, while fourth – potentially third – was Laurens Vanthoor and Zach Robichon in the #9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R.
