Jose Maria Lopez has completed his session sweep by taking pole position for the Six Hours of Monza.
After initially making a mistake on his first lap, Lopez improved and posted a 01:35:899 shortly before the session was red flagged.
That red flag was a result of a crash for Stoffel Vandoorne in the #28 JOTA ORECA 07-Gibson, who lost control of the car of the second Lesmo, but was able to walk away.
After the session, neither of the Toyotas went out again, meaning that Brendon Hartley had to settle for second in the #8 Toyota.
Nicolas Lapierre’s #48 Alpine A480-Gibson and both Glickenhaus cars went out after the session was restarted, but were unable to improve.
Lapierre ended up third ahead of the #708 Glickenhaus 007 LMH of Pipo Derani, with Richard Westbrook fifth.
The red flag, meanwhile, enabled Charles Milesi to take a surprise pole for Team WRT in LMP2. Milesi’s 01:38:527 was quickest before the red flagged, and nobody was able to improve upon that time.
Filipe Albuquerque came second in the #22 United Autosports ORECA 07-Gibson, with third place for the #21 DragonSpeed ORECA of Ben Hanley.
The top five was completed by Racing Team Nederland’s Nyck de Vries and Risi Competizione’s Felipe Nasr.
