Peter Sauber has wished his driver Sergio Perez all the best at McLaren, after it was confirmed the Mexican would leave the Swiss outfit for the Woking based team in 2013.
In a short statement on Friday, the team principal somewhat welcomed Perez’s career progression, but insisted they would support the 22-year-old in the final six races of 2012.
“Sergio has been given the opportunity to drive for McLaren, one of the most successful teams in the history of Formula One,” Sauber said. “We wish him all the best for this move.
“Before he leaves, there are still six races to come in which we will give Sergio our utmost support with the aim of gaining as many points as possible.”
Meanwhile, he added that a decision regarding the teams driver line-up for 2013 wouldn’t be rushed.
“As to our drivers for 2013, we will announce them in due course,” he concluded.
Speculation has linked Heikki Kovalainen and Jaime Alguersuari to the seat.
