Jenzer Motorsport has announced that Johnathan Hoggard will replace Pierre-Louis Chovet at the team for the upcoming Formula 3 round in France.
Hoggard spent two years in the British Formula 4 championship in 2017 and 2018, finishing third in the standings in his second season.
In 2019, he progressed to the British Formula 3 series, where he emerged as the championship’s runner-up before winning the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year award.
As a result, he received the opportunity to drive the Red Bull RB8 F1 car at Silverstone, which was his first experience at the wheel of an F1 competitor.
Hoggard drove F3 machinery at last year’s post-season tests in Barcelona and Jerez but didn’t take part in this year’s pre-season test or opening round in Barcelona.
“This was unexpected and happened so fast,” said Hoggard. “I have worked for this opportunity for years and I will give my best from Paul Ricard on.”
Team principal Andreas Jenzer added: “Getting a new driver on board after all official tests and the first round over is always challenging but we trust Johnathan to be fully involved and dedicated to catch this opportunity.”
With one round completed in the 2021 F3 championship, Jenzer sits ninth in the Teams’ standings, chasing its first points of the year.
