Joel Eriksson has re-signed as Dragon Penske Autosport’s reserve driver for the remainder of the 2020/22 Formula E season and will make his race debut next month at the Puebla EPrix.
Eriksson will stand-in for Nico Muller, who is unavailable due to a clash with the season-opening DTM round at Monza, where he will be competing for the Audi Team Rosberg squad.
Muller is currently 13th in the standings with 30 points and scored Dragon’s maiden Gen2 podium in the first Valencia EPrix, where he finished second to Mercedes’ Nyck de Vries.
Swedish racer Eriksson previously tested a Formula E car in Marrakesh last year, when he took part in the rookie test alongside Muller’s team-mate Sergio Sette Camara.
The 22-year-old currently competes in the ADAC GT Masters with Schubert Motorsport.
“To race in Formula E has always been a dream since the championship started and to be given the chance finally feels kind of unreal,” said Eriksson. “There’s a lot of work in front of us, but I have a great team behind me, so I know they will do all they can to make me as prepared as possible before arriving in Mexico.
“This time, it will be challenging as I only have limited mileage in this car. But, my main goal is to make the best out of it and gain as much experience as possible. I do believe that scoring points in the races is absolutely possible if I execute well. I will give it my all to achieve this goal.”
