IndyCar has confirmed that this year’s planned Honda Indy Toronto round will no longer take place owing to measures imposed in the Canadian city.
Toronto’s mayor announced Friday that all major outdoor events in the city through Labour Day (September 6) have been cancelled due to the pandemic.
The 2021 running of the Honda Indy Toronto was due to take place from July 9 – 11 at Exhibition Place.
It is the second successive season that the event has been cancelled because of the pandemic.
“Following the City of Toronto’s decision to extend the cancellation of permits for major festivals and events through Labour Day due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Honda Indy Toronto has been removed from the schedule,” read a statement issued by event organisers.
“Of course, we are all disappointed in this outcome. Our team greatly appreciates the incredible fans, participants, volunteers, media and dedicated partners who have supported us as we all navigate these unusual and uncertain days.
“Ticket purchasers on file with deferred tickets from the 2020 event will now have those tickets extended to the 2022 event.”
