Charouz Racing System’s David Beckmann set the quickest time on the opening day of Formula 2 pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Beckmann clocked a best of 1:42.844 in the afternoon session to finish 0.177s clear of Carlin’s Dan Ticktum.
Formula 2 has just three days of pre-season running prior to the opening round in Bahrain later this month though another test is scheduled to be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in April.
Alpine F1 junior driver Christian Lundgaard had the third fastest time of the day, narrowly heading ART team-mate Theo Pourchaire, the pair seven-tenths down on Beckmann.
Liam Lawson claimed fifth in the overall timesheets with his best effort in the morning session, which bettered fellow Red Bull junior Jehan Daruvala.
UNI-Virtuosi’s Felipe Drugovich was seventh, leading Juri Vips, Oscar Piastri and Lirim Zendeli, whose best times were separated by just 0.016s.
All of the confirmed 2021 F2 drivers were present at the test, while MP Motorsport ran Richard Verschoor in the one seat yet to be announced for the upcoming campaign.
