AJ Foyt Racing has announced that it will run a third car in this year’s Indianapolis 500, with Charlie Kimball behind the wheel of the #11 entry.
This will be the 11th Indy 500 attempt for Kimball, with his previous best finish being third in 2015 for Chip Ganassi Racing.
The UK-born American will run the familiar Tresiba livery for both the Indy 500 and the GMR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course earlier in the month.
“I am excited to once again represent Novo Nordisk and the diabetes community and to join AJ Foyt Racing for the month of May,” Kimball said.
“I have never run at Indianapolis without Novo Nordisk and to be able to return this year with the support of the legendary A.J. Foyt, Larry Foyt, and everyone at AJ Foyt Racing, will certainly be special.”
AJ Foyt Racing has often fielded an additional car for the infamous race, and will run Kimball alongside Sebastien Bourdais and Dalton Kellet for the month of May in 2021.
Last year, Kimball raced full time with the team, and finished 18th in both the Indy 500 and the overall points championship.
“It’s awesome to have Charlie and Novo Nordisk back for the month of May,” said Larry Foyt, president of A.J. Foyt Racing.
“They were both great to work with throughout the challenges of 2020, and I’m glad we can continue the program. Charlie is focused on producing great results, and we are working hard to put the best group together for success.”
The 105th running of the Indy 500 is currently scheduled as the sixth race on the 2021 IndyCar calendar on May 30.
