Alpine Formula 1 junior Guan Yu Zhou will remain with UNI-Virtuosi for a third successive Formula 2 campaign.
Zhou, 21, has been affiliated with Formula 1 teams since 2014, initially with Ferrari, before joining Renault’s scheme for 2019.
Zhou stepped up to UNI-Virtuosi the same season, scoring a maiden pole and five podiums, and finished as the highest-placed rookie in seventh spot.
Zhou was tipped as a title contender for 2020, and started the season by taking pole position, but had to wait until the truncated Sochi Sprint Race before he was able to collect a first win.
The Chinese youngster went on to take sixth in the standings.
His expected continuation in the championship, with UNI-Virtuosi, has now been confirmed and he will partner three-time race winner Felipe Drugovich.
“I expect to be one of the title contenders,” said Zhou. “Last year was a tough season, we had some technical issues, and we ended sixth which was not so bad. Hopefully this year we can put everything together.”
Zhou acted as Renault’s Formula 1 test driver last year and carried out running in the R.S.20 in Abu Dhabi’s young driver gathering last December.
