Campos has announced its first driver signing for the 2021 FIA Formula 3 season, with Amaury Cordeel joining the team.
18-year-old Cordeel makes the step up from Formula Renault Eurocup, where he finished 15th last year with a best race result of fifth at Zandvoort.
The Belgian’s biggest achievement so far in his racing career came in 2018, when he emerged victorious in the Spanish Formula 4 Championship.
Cordeel is the first driver announcement from the Campos outfit since it confirmed last week that its founder Adrian Campos passed away.
“All winter the people around me have worked hard,” said Cordeel.
“We finally concluded a great agreement with Campos Racing because we know that this team retains the required know-how to assist me as a ‘rookie’ in an ideal context.
“Over the last few years with their Driver Academy the team has proven to possess the right baggage to groom drivers for the top class, namely F1.
“I wish to thank my partners and hope that in the coming years together with them and with Campos Racing we write a wonderful motorsport chapter.
“Sadly, there is also less good news, because in the middle of last week my Campos Racing team unexpectedly lost their founding father, Adrian Campos Sr. I therefore wish to take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences.”
The 2021 F3 season is scheduled to begin on May 8 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, supporting Formula 1’s Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
