GMC Hummer has been confirmed as a sponsor of the Chip Ganassi Racing team in Extreme E, with the team’s off-roader featuring unique bodywork inspired by Hummer’s new EV.
Chip Ganassi is one of the 10 teams competing in the inaugural season of the new all-electric off-road championship, which kicks off in early-April in Saudi Arabia.
Although the Extreme E car is standard across all teams, the Chip Ganassi car will feature a unique grill, graphics and bodywork inspired by the Hummer EV as part of the sponsorship deal.
“I can’t think of a better fit than showcasing the look of GMC’s HUMMER EV in Extreme E with Chip Ganassi Racing,” said Jim Campbell, General Motors U.S. vice president of performance and motorsports.
“Both GMC HUMMER EV and the Extreme E series are designed to be revolutionary – to challenge perceptions of electric vehicles and to showcase their true capability.”
“It’s truly an honour to represent GMC, especially during such an exciting time in auto racing,” added Chip Ganassi, CGR team owner. “The new GMC HUMMER EV is going to be a game changer in terms of how the world views off-road EV capability, and we couldn’t be more proud to represent GMC in such an innovative new series.”
Kyle LeDuc and Sara Price have been confirmed as CGR’s drivers for the 2021 season, which concludes in December in Argentina.
