MotorsportWeek.com would like to wish its loyal readers a very Merry Christmas!
It has been an extremely challenging year for the world and this festive season is likely to be different for many of us owing to the ongoing restrictions and measures in place across several countries and territories.
Motorsport was not exempt from the pandemic, and suffered a hiatus of several months, but worked tirelessly to get championships up and running in vastly altered circumstances.
The majority of events were held behind closed doors, lacking fans and atmosphere, but championships were able to keep going by taking vital precautions and applying protocols.
Formula 1 crowned Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes champions for a seventh time, MotoGP anointed a new title-winner in Suzuki rider Joan Mir, while Toyota swept up in the World Endurance Championship.
Scott Dixon made it six in IndyCar, with Takuma Sato a double-winner at the 500, while Sebastien Ogier took back his WRC crown to become a seven-time champion.
Mick Schumacher and Oscar Piastri won titles in Formula 2 and Formula 3, Antonio Felix da Costa and Techeetah were crowned Formula E kings, with Rene Rast three-peating in DTM.
