Williams Racing has appointed Jost Capito as Chief Executive Officer while Simon Roberts will take on the role of Team Principal on a permanent basis.
The organisation was sold to Dorilton Capital in August, ending the Williams family’s involvement, with Roberts taking on the position of team boss on an interim role.
On Thursday Williams confirmed that it has recruited Capito as its new CEO and he will join the team at the start of February.
Capito has spent time in senior positions at BMW, Porsche, Sauber and Ford and more recently headed Volkswagen’s operations during its dominant spell in the World Rally Championship.
He had a brief stint at McLaren’s Formula 1 team after which he joined Volkswagen R, the department which focuses on the manufacturer’s performance cars.

“It is an honour to be a part of the future of this storied team, and one that carries such a poignant name in the sport, so I approach this challenge with great respect and with a huge amount of relish.”
Roberts will stay on as Team Principal and report to Capito.

“He is an experienced and competitive individual, who has built winning teams and is a winner in his own right.
“He understands the Williams heritage and will work well with the team in pursuit of our objective to return to the front of the grid.”
Williams has finished at the foot of the 10-team Constructors’ Championship for the last three years.
