Flavio Briatore believes the current double-champion, Sebastian Vettel, is still only the third quickest driver on the grid, despite the German dominating the season.
The Italian described Vettel as ‘good’ but only third quickest, behind his own driver Fernando Alonso (who he manages) and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
“Vettel is definitely good,” he is quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport. “But he has won because he has been the best to manage his phenomenal machine [Red Bull].
“He is not the best. Imagine a race with everyone racing the same car; Vettel would be behind Fernando Alonso and also Lewis Hamilton.”
However, when it comes to a single lap for pole position, Briatore conceeds that the German is the quicker of the three, with Hamilton second and Alonso third.
“Over one lap I see him in pole position, with Hamilton second and Alonso third.”
