Formula 1’s preparations for the Eifel Grand Prix are set for further disruption due to the persistent unsettled weather conditions affecting the region on Friday.

Rain has fallen throughout the day in western Germany while low-lying cloud has also resulted in misty conditions at the Nürburgring.

As a consequence the medical helicopter has been unable to fly.

The designated facility for this weekend’s event is in Bonn, 70km away, and cannot be reached by road within the stipulated time limit.

No track running took place during the first practice session with Race Control keeping the pit lane exit closed.

Prior to the start of second practice it was announced that the countdown clock will begin at 15:00 local time but the pit exit will again not open.

Further updates will be issued every half an hour.

It is thought unlikely that conditions will significantly improve through the remainder of the day.

Much brighter weather is expected for both Saturday and Sunday.

Current forecasts indicate a minimal risk of rain on either day, with sunny spells set to prevail, and a maximum temperature of around 8c.
