DAMS has confirmed that Red Bull junior Juri Vips will continue to drive for it at the upcoming Formula 2 round at Sochi in just under two weeks’ time.
Vips was drafted in as a replacement for Sean Gelael, who suffered a broken vertebrae during the Feature Race at Barcelona last month.
Vips failed to score points at the opening four races with the team, but secured a seventh-place finish last Saturday at Mugello.
The Estonian then sealed his maiden podium result at Sunday’s Sprint Race, crossing the line in third place.
“I pushed a little bit too hard to catch up to Louis [Deletraz], and probably a little bit too early,” Vips said after claiming his first F2 podium.
“In the end, I just ran out of tyres. There were four or five times in the last few laps that I nearly spun. I’m just thankful that I finished in the end.
“I really gave it everything to recover from the bad start today. Still, there’s some very good positives to take, and some very good momentum into Sochi.”
Gelael previously commented that he would be out for a minimum of six weeks, however it is not yet known if he will return to racing after Sochi.
The round in Russia will be the third last event of the 2020 season, as two rounds at Bahrain will conclude the Championship.
