Fabio Quartararo topped the timesheets in FP2 at the Misano grand Prix this afternoon, beating his teammate Franco Morbidelli by just over one tenth of a second.
The Frenchman was impressive during the 45-minute long session, bettering his own lap times, but all eyes were on FP1 pace-setter and Yamaha factory rider Maverick Viñales as he jostled with the fellow Yamaha for the top spot.
The pair traded places with each other early on in the session before Team Ecstar Suzuki rider Joan Mir slotted his machine into P1 with a time of 1.33.236, a full 0.134 of second faster than Quartararo.
Alex Rins was also one to watch as he snatched glory from Joan Mir with a lap time of 1.33.015, giving the number 42 rider a two-tenths-of-a-second advantage over his team-mate.
Czech GP winner Brad Binder went fastest with just three minutes to go but his session then came to an end when he crashed at turn 6, low-siding his KTM into the gravel.
As the clock ran out, it looked as though FP1 pace-setter Maverick Vinales would also be quickest in FP2, after the Spaniard pushed Rins into second, but the Spaniard was quickly pipped by Fabio Quartararo, denying him an all-dominant Friday Free Practice.
Franco Morbidelli put in a time of 1.32.367 to snatch into second at the death, while Pol Espargaro nudged the Red Bull KTM Tech 3 rider of Iker Lecuona into fourth.
Local hero Valentino Rossi completed the top five on the second factory Yamaha, Vinales ultimately slipping to sixth behind his team-mate as the session came to a close.
Danilo Petrucci saved some honour for his official Ducati sqaud with the seventh quickest effort, while Binder fell to eighth ahead of Austrian GP victor Miguel Oliveira.
Aleix Espargaro completed the top ten for Aprilia, the Spaniard inching ahead of Andrea Dovizioso by just 0.009.
