Nico Müller has stormed his way to the fastest time in opening practice for the third round of the 2020 DTM season at the Lausitzring Grand Prix circuit.
The championship leader set a 01:37:425 in his Audi RS5 DTM, a time that was over half a second than anyone else. Philipp Eng came in second, but the Austrian’s 01:37:957 was 0.532s off Müller’s time.
Jamie Green was in third, another 0.167s off Eng but barely faster than Team WRT’s Ferdinans Habsburg, whose best effort of 01:38:136 was 0.012s slower than the Audi veteran. Rene Rast, who took his first win of the season at the Lausitzring last week, completed the top five.
Three-time polesitter Robin Frijns, still in search of his maiden win in the championship, was sixth fastest ahead of Loic Duval, Marco Wittmann and Jonathan Aberdein. The top ten was completed by Lucas Auer.
Mike Rockenfeller’s best effort of 01:39:795 was 0.160s short of a spot in the top ten as he came in eleventh, ahead of Timo Glock and Sheldon van der Linde.
Harrison Newey was the best-placed rookie for Team WRT in fourteenth, ahead of Robert Kubica and Fabio Scherer.
