James Allison, technical director at Renault, has been appointed head of the Technical Regulations Working Group at FOTA, the Formula One Teams’ Association.
He replaces Ferrari’s Aldo Costa who was forced to step down after a management reshuffle at the Italian outfit saw him ousted from his position and moved to the road car division.
Allison was voted in unanimously during a conference call late last week.
He previously worked at Benetton and Larousse, but left when the team disbanded. He moved back to Benetton but was later paoched by Ferrari where he spent a few years before leaving for Renault in 2005, finally becoming their technical director.
