Alex Smolyar, who took victory in the second FIA Formula 3 race of the British Grand Prix weekend, has been handed a five-second time penalty for excessive changes of direction whilst defending from David Beckmann.

The Russian won the race on track with the stewards noting the number of occasions on the Hangar straight when the ART driver moved more than once across the track.

As a result, Smolyar has lost his maiden victory in the series and is demoted to sixth position behind Logan Sargeant.

Beckmann has been handed his second win of the season and is now 31.5 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri, following the Australian’s failure to score.

Promoted to second was Clement Novalak, picking up his second podium of the season. The same for Alex Peroni in third, with Frederik Vesti in fourth.

The other post-race penalty had been awarded to Sophia Flörsch for forcing Cameron Das off the track on the exit of Luffield. Five-seconds dropped the German from 21st and 25th in the final classification.
