Alex Zanardi’s condition has not changed in the last 24 hours, according to doctors treating him, who hope to evaluate the next steps over the coming days.
Zanardi, 53, was involved in a handcycling accident in his native Italy on Friday.
Zanardi was airlifted to Siena’s University Hospital and underwent a two-and-a-half neurosurgery and maxillofacial surgery before being placed in a medically-induced coma.
On Monday doctors again described his condition as “stable” and said that his third night in intensive care was “spent without variations.”
“The clinical conditions therefore remain unchanged in the cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters while the neurological picture remains severe.
“The patient is sedated, intubated and mechanically ventilated and the prognosis is reserved.
“The multidisciplinary team that has him in care will evaluate in the coming days any diagnostic or therapeutic actions to be undertaken.”
The next update is due to be issued on Tuesday afternoon.
