Dorna Sports has released an updated 2020 MotoGP calendar this morning that features 13 European rounds, with seven of these being held in Spain.
The new schedule will begin at Jerez with double header on the 19th and 26th of July weekends before the Czech Grand Prix in early August.
A pair of races at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and Misano in Italy follow, before a further five races take place at the Spanish Catalunya, Aragon and Valencia venues that sandwich the French GP in October.
Four other events outside of Europe – namely the Argentine, United States, Thailand and Malaysian rounds – are also in the works, with dates to be announced before the end of July should they go ahead.
The four non-European events will push the ’20 campaign to a mid-December conclusion, the latest for a premier class season for some time.
The news of MotoGP’s updated schedule follows the cancellation of the Italian contest at Mugello on Wednesday while the British, Australian and Japanese races were cancelled late last month.
Four other events have also been deferred to ’21, with the season-opening Qatar GP only going ahead for Moto2 and Moto3 due to the teams already having travelled for an earlier test, while the Finnish, German and Dutch encounters also fell victim to the restrictions caused by Covid-19.
It has not yet been announced whether fans will be allowed to attend any of the planned races this year, although things look positive for the US round at least due to NASCAR allowing up to 5000 fans to its Talladega event in a couple weeks time.
