Silverstone has revealed that it intends to distribute thousands of tickets to NHS and keyworkers for its 2021 Formula 1 grand prix.
On Monday it was confirmed that the British Grand Prix will be held behind closed doors in 2020, if Silverstone receives the required government approval to run the event.
It is currently scheduled for July 19.
Fans who had already purchased tickets have been given the option of a full refund or a transfer to the 2021 event, and will be contacted within the next two weeks.
It has also been announced that Silverstone will offer access to the 2021 event for those who have been leading the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the United Kingdom.
“We intend to give away thousands of tickets for the 2021 event to NHS and other key workers who have literally ben putting their lives on the line for us all, during these challenging times,” said Silverstone Managing Director Stuart Pringle.
“No one can be in any doubt of the huge debt of gratitude we owe to them.”
Silverstone hosted Formula 1’s inaugural World Championship grand prix in 1950 and has been the permanent home of the British Grand Prix since 1987.
It reached a new agreement with Formula 1 last year to continue hosting the British Grand Prix through 2024.
